The Singapore Design Awards (SDA) celebrates its 30th anniversary this year! The SDA is especially meaningful as it was conceived and launched by the first Prime Minister of Singapore – the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Since then, the SDA has been honouring outstanding designers, design students and design practices from across the world and it remains the leading design award in Southeast Asia. The SDA aims to raise awareness for the region and the strategic role of designers with Singapore at the heart of a dynamic Southeast Asia.
To commemorate SDA’s 30th year, we have revised the entry criteria to cater to the wider design community. We introduce a new category – Professionals in addition to the Corporate and Student groupings. The design disciplines for SDA have also been revamped to encompass the various pillars of design: Image-making, Object-making, Place-making and Multidisciplinary (those that feature 2 or more of the 3 above-stated disciplines). From 2018 onwards, the SDA will be held bi-annually.
