IES照明獎計劃根據每個參賽作品的個人優點來表彰其在照明設計方面的專業性、獨創性和燈光設計項目裡的獨特設計。 評委選自廣泛的專業領域，他們具有豐富的照明和設計知識。 評審的系統是基於照明設計能符合評判標準的程度而定。 照明獎計劃不是以競賽為目的。
Edwin F. Guth 贊助的室內照明設計照明獎、Cooper Lighting Solutions 贊助的戶外照明設計照明獎、照明控制協會贊助的控制創新獎和能源與環境設計獎是平行計劃，旨在認可傑出的照明設計。
The IES Lighting Awards Program recognizes the professionalism, originality and originality of lighting design according to the individual merits of each entry. The judges are selected from a wide range of professional fields and they have extensive knowledge of lighting and design. The review system is based entirely on the degree to which the lighting design meets the program standards. The lighting award program is not a competition.
The Illumination Award for Interior Lighting Design sponsored by Edwin F. Guth, the Illumination Award for Outdoor Lighting Design sponsored by Cooper Lighting Solutions, the Control Innovation Award sponsored by the Lighting Controls Association, and the Energy and Environmental Design Award are parallel programs created to recognize outstanding lighting design.
